Prepare Rank Import Files

There are two options for importing historical rank data, follow the steps in one of the sections below based on your campaign status and needs.
  • If the campaign is not tracking competitor URLs, then the simple Campaign Historical Import is all that is needed.
  • If the campaign rank history has already been imported and you want to add competitor rank history then the Competitor Rank History Import should be followed.

Campaign Historical Import

  • Create one import file for each search engine and domain.
  • Enter the campaign's keywords in Column A (leaving the keyword label intact). Keywords must already exist in the Campaign Settings > Keywords screen.
  • Enter the Campaign Name in Column B for all rows of the spreadsheet. Campaign Name must exactly match the Campaign Settings > General Settings Campaign Name field.
  • Overwrite the MM/DD/YYYY labels beginning in Column C with actual rank dates. Dates must be in MM/DD/YYYY format (some users have reported that it is possible to convert to US date format by copying dates that are in other formats into a Google Sheet and downloading to CSV, additionally, Excel Tips provides instructions for converting from European to US date format).
We have learned that some users experience a problem when saving a CSV file their computer's date settings change the date format, the work-around for that is to save the import file as a .XLSX Excel workbook file before importing.
  • Enter or paste the historical keyword rank for each date in the date columns.
Note: The Baseline rank accepts a value from 0-100. In case your import file has keywords whose rank position is 0 or not a number (for example "-" or "N/A") , change the listed rank to 100 for the baseline to show as 100.
